Team Penning
For those who don't know, team penning is a really fun sport that has become very popular over the past 8 years. A team of three riders must cut three cows (with the same number on their necks) out of a herd, bring them down to the other end of the arena and into a pen - in less than 60 seconds. Our winning times are often under 30 seconds. It's fast and loud and highly addictive. You can be on as many teams as you like, but each team must have different people on it.
We hold team penning events at Way-Ont starting in late spring and continuing into the fall. This is an activity which has really evolved over the years. Some of our penners have gotten very good at it while others are just starting out - the great thing about penning is that the cow is the great equalizer that can make or break a run, no matter what your experience level is. We sometimes run one-on-one and we sometimes have a few runs for the kids where they only have to pen one cow and we give them a little extra time. It's really fun to watch as well.
You do not need to be a member of Way-Ont to ride, but you must be a member to qualify for Year-End Awards in Team Penning. Membership applications will be available at the booth.
